0Three top tips to get young children interested in reading
A new term has started, schools are back in full swing and I’m back on the mummy-circle talking about cutting skills, letters and preparing for school. Although I’m not expecting my 2-year-old to read, I’ve asked Emily Jack, founder of private tutoring company Kings Tutors, for how to get children interested in reading from an early age, and here are her three top tips:
- Pick your children’s first books based on children’s hobbies and interests
- Play board games, such as Monopoly, Scrabble, Articulate, that involve words to help inspire children to read
- Read with your children for 20 minutes before bedtime. This a great way to wind down and end the day in a relaxing manner – it will be something the children will enjoy doing with their parents too.
