Tips for taking toddler to Disneyland

The boat ride had come to an end, but Baby Girl was not happy. She was shouting and stamping. She wanted to see more singing and dancing dolls, and in her mind, we had not heard the chorus of  ‘It’s a Small World’ enough times.

Going to Disneyland Paris with a toddler was a fantastic experience for the whole family, and we felt there was more than enough to do in Disneyland Park for 23-month old Baby Girl. Here are a few suggestions for fun things to do in Disneyland for little ones:

Meeting Disney characters
As soon as Baby Girl spotted Minnie, she shouted ‘Hi Minnie’ across the square. It made us join the queue to meet with her straight away–and we didn’t regret it despite the one-hour waiting time. One of us was in the queue while the other one walked around with Baby Girl, so one hour passed relatively quickly. Baby Girl loves Minnie Mouse, and meeting Minnie was a definite highlight of the trip. Next time we go, I’ll make sure we also go to all the other character meet and greets–even if it’s just to see them from a distance.

It’s a Small World
I remember the Disney ride It’s a Small World being one of my favourites when I was a child, and Daddy T and I even enjoyed the ride when we went to Disneyland just the two of us a few years back. Now, we simply loved seeing Baby Girl mesmerised with the singing and dancing dolls dressed up in costumes from all over the world.

Parade and Shows
There tends to be a number of shows throughout the day in Disneyland, and Baby Girl really enjoyed seeing a little dancing show on Main Street. We missed the parade this time, as we were there for a day trip and had to leave before 5.30, but I know she would have enjoyed seeing that too, so next time we go, we’ll make sure we don’t leave earlier than 6.

Some of the other attractions recommended for little ones include Dumbo – The Flying Elephant, Autopia and the Horse-Drawn Street Cars. Since very long queues for rides can be difficult with young children, we will probably try to go outside a school holiday next time.
