Taking toddler language classes in South West London

‘You must say: ‘bonjour’

When it’s my turn to shop in Baby Girl’s pretend shop (see Healthy Eating Kitchen and Market Stall above), a simple ‘hello’ doesn’t do. ‘Bonjour’ is suddenly the only acceptable way to greet the multilingual 28-month-old shopkeeper.

She has been learning French in the past six months, and since we also regularly go to the French boulangerie Chanteroy on Wandsworth Bridge Road, she’s now decided French is a very suitable language for her own shop.

I didn’t have French in school, and I’m easy to impress with pronunciation, so I love it when she shouts ‘Au revoir’ in a way that sounds very French to me after I’ve paid with the pretend credit card. I already have so much to learn from Baby Girl, and I’m sure there will be more to come, as she’ll be doing a Spanish music class this term too.

Here are a few options for toddler language classes in South West London:

Bilingual Beats
I’ve signed Baby Girl up for Bilingual Beats this term, as she’s loved music classes in the past, and this foreign language music programme for under 5s seemed like a fun way to be exposed to musical instruments, singing, dancing and language. Her Bilingual Beats class will be in Spanish, but classes are also available in French in some venues.

Club Petit Pierrot
A number of nurseries offer French classes as part of the curriculum, but I’ve also heard mums talking about Club Petit Pierrot, which offers classes at Beaufort House and St Luke’s Church Hall in Chelsea, Eddie Catz in Putney and other venues in Notting Hill and St John’s Wood. The structured classes are taught in French and children learn French through play, songs and rhymes. In addition, there’s a focus on introducing the little ones to French culture.
