0Tootsa MacGinty unisex clothes for quality and style
When I went to children’s trade show Dot to Dot London earlier this year I was excited to meet Tootsa MacGinty founder Kate and her colleagues, and see the new spring/summer collection with clever details for ensuring children’s clothes are comfortable to wear, last longer and look the part at the same time.
The brand, which provides ethically-made unisex clothes for boys and girls, is ideal for parents like us, who have just realised we’re not going to have many clothes suitable for being passed down to soon-to-arrive Baby Boy, as we’ve been dressing Baby Girl in girly clothes with lots of pink, floral, glitter and tulle.
The whole unisex concept is completely new to me, but after seeing the Tootsa MacGinty clothes, which are sold in Selfridges and independent shops like Semmalina in Belgravia, and receiving a few samples for Baby Girl now, I’ve been impressed with the quality of these clothes, the bright colours and little details, such as covered seams, soft clothes tags and beautiful embroidery.
I particularly love the stylish, quilted bomber jacket with a sun and rainbow at the back, which looks very on trend this season in a pale denim colour, and I can see this becoming a favourite spring jacket in our household. It is soft and looks adorable over both dresses and skirts and more casual trousers. Baby Girl can even do double-denim and pair it with the loose fit harem trousers from Tootsa MacGinty with tiny palm prints, which is ideal for the warmer months when I prefer covering up Baby Girl’s sensitive skin and dress her in lightweight and comfortable trousers like these.
The Africa-themed cross-stitch cotton sweaters in the new collection are also adorable and look very long-lasting. When I felt the quality and saw the level of detail, I was surprised this wasn’t more expensive, and I love how the cuffs are long, making them ideal for being rolled up at first and grow with the child.
The sweater comes in pink for those who want to stick to pink, and Baby Girl would normally have opted for that colour, but I think the green Baboon sweater is super cool and she can easily wear it with a floral blouse underneath, the unisex loose-fitting shorts from Tootsa MacGinty in a lightweight denim cotton, her pink tights and her flashy sneakers.
That way Baby Boy gets his first pass-me-downs and we only have less expensive girly items from the outfits to replace with something like a blue-checked shirt and grey tights when Baby Boy is big enough for the clothes.
Super convenient for parents!
