0Top advent calendars for Christmas 2015
At the end of January I found Big Girl checking all the pockets of her Maileg advent calendar. She hadn’t wanted to accept that Christmas Day was long gone and advent calendars were of no use anymore.
Now the pressure is on again to meet the high expectations for the countdown to Christmas, and I’ve spotted a range of unique, fun and sweet advent calendar options this year:
The edible calendar
For mums and dads–or as a treat for the whole family to share–I adore the Biscuiteers advent calendar. This luxurious version of an edible calendar comes as a set with a beautiful tin of 24 snowy-themed biscuits and a traditional cloth advent calendar designed by BBC star and vintage queen Sarah Moore . The calendar has 24 pouches to fit the biscuits, which include cute animal biscuits like a walrus and a penguin. The tin of advent biscuits can also be purchased on its own (£45), so the delicious biscuits could be used without a wall display – or shared in between siblings for mums who have to make several calendars. The Sarah Moore calendar is £25 when bought on its own.
The traditional calendar
For mums who like finding little presents to wrap, Scandinavian-style high quality fabric advent calendars like the one pictured from Swedish toy brand oskar&ellen, or the one we have from Danish brand Maileg, make cute festive decorations in any children’s bedroom. I like it when mum’s are not restricted to a specific size for all presents and can tie some or all the presents to little hooks.
The toy calendar
I keep seeing more and more toy calendars available now, and I think it’s a great idea to get a small toy each day to complete a set in time for Christmas. For boys the Lego Star Wars advent calendar (pictured left), which includes minifigures, vehicles, a play mat and more, must be a popular choice, and for little girls, the Schleich horse calendar, which I’ve seen available from Ocado, looks like great fun.
