0Top concerns for second time mums-to-be
Being pregnant the second time around is very different. There’s little time to think about the new baby. But there is more than enough to have nine months to worry about how to manage two children and how a new member of the family is going to affect Baby Girl.
After reading research published after Prince George became a big brother, I realised I’m probably not the only one who’s pregnant for a second time and feeling slightly worried. Laundry liquid brand Persil Non-Bio and fabric conditioner Comfort Pure asked 500 pregnant mums what worries them most, and the research showed I’m simply one of the 52% of second time mums-to-be worrying about how to split time fairly between children. Another 20% of us also worry about having enough time to bond with the newborn whilst juggling needs of siblings.
The other concern I’ve had during this pregnancy is starting from scratch with a newborn. I love the freedom I now have during the day when Baby Girl has a busy schedule with nursery and activity clubs, giving me time to work as a freelance journalist, start my own business and attend press events.
I’m slightly worried about how I’m now going to have to start saying ‘no’ to things I love, and factor in seven to eight hours of breastfeeding every day. This was also highlighted in the Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure survey, with 60% worrying about losing ‘me time’.
Like the first time around, however, I realise establishing a routine for baby will be vital for me to get anything done. According to Suzie Hayman from parenting expert charity Family Lives, parents should also focus on routines for older children, which I think makes good sense to ensure everyone gets the attention they deserve.
It sounds like a great idea to introduce a set time when Baby Girl knows that either me or Daddy T will spend time with her.
Somehow life with two will just have to work!
