0How to travel light when travelling alone with baby or toddler
I used to think I was good at travelling light and only packing what was really essential, but I used to have a wheelie carry-on to fill. Not simply a freezer bag. Now, I go away for a weekend with Baby Girl, and pack all my clothes in a sandwich bag.
There’s no way I’ll carry an ounce more than necessary, so it’s all about planning the outfits. On Friday, I travelled in black skinny jeans, black Isabel Marant wedge trainers, a white top and a grey cashmere cardigan. In my freezer bag, I had two white tops for daytime and a black one for Saturday night, underwear and socks. I also had a freezer bag with lip gloss, mascara, blusher, concealer and hand sanitiser.
Baby Girl was slightly better off. She had a new outfit for every day and an extra one for emergencies, but all the clothes were squeezed into a nappy pouch.
The rest of the Goyard tote I travel with was filled with passports, wallet, keys, baby snacks, three 200ml cartons of growing up milk, nappies, wipes, nappy sacks, a water bottle, a clean baby bottle for milk, cotton wool, and toys.
I wouldn’t risk not having toys to keep Baby Girl entertained on the trip, so those are worth the extra weight. Baby Girl was carrying Teddy in her LittleLife rucksack with safety rein, and I was carrying a sticker book, a paperback book, a colour book, her doll and most importantly – the fully charged iPad.
Didn’t miss a thing!
