0Starting 2016 with clean carpets by Vax Dual Power Pro
When I received a huge heavy box on the door the other week I was a bit taken aback. I’m not sure what I expected a carpet cleaner to look like but the Vax Dual Power Pro I received to review looked a whole lot more professional than I had imagined.
I had read that it worked on different types of flooring, so I had been intrigued to try it despite the fact we only have carpets in the staircase and mainly wooden flooring throughout.
I needed a week simply to look at the Vax Dual Power Pro carpet cleaner (£199.96), which is the biggest cleaning product I’ve ever had, and I soon realised it would probably be fantastic for someone with a large open space property with fitted carpets and high carpet cleaning bills.
Before trying it, I watched a 1-minute YouTube demonstration, and poured water and the cleaning solution which came with the machine into the right containers. The carpet cleaner was easy to use, and I was pretty pleased with my quick cleaning of two rugs.
It comes with a hose and handheld device for stairs and upholstery, and I tried this accessory for removing a stain on an ottoman and a chair. I got quite anxious about having ruined the ottoman when I realised I’d forgotten to check if the fabric was fine to clean and there was quite a lot of water coming out of the machine–but it worked and it did dry up.
My concerns didn’t make me stop my cleaning frenzy though. I continued until the smell from the carpet cleaning solution felt too strong to leave the windows closed and I noticed I’d been spilling water all around when dragging the machine around from room to room.
With children in the house, it’s impossible to keep rugs, carpets and furniture spot-free, and Vax Dual Power Pro offers families the opportunity to do professional cleaning at home when needed.
In our house, however, there aren’t enough carpets and enough storage to justify keeping a large machine like this, which makes the floor quite wet and in my view is better on carpets than hard flooring although it can be used for both. There are also too many stairs in our house to be tempted to use Dual Power Pro, which I think got pretty heavy when filled with water.
I’m certain at-home carpet cleaning products will be brilliant for mums who need a quick-fix, have large, fitted carpets, few stairs and plenty of storage, but I’ve realised I’m the type who’ll continue booking a professional to do the job instead.
