0Velveteen brings ruffles and 70s vibe to A/W 17
When I went to the press day for US luxury children’s fashion brand Velveteen the other day, I left thinking some of the pieces should really have gone beyond size 14 years. The gold jacket with a big, white ruffled collar could have been brilliant for me to wear over a black top on a night out.
The new collection is stylish and on trend for A/W 17, featuring plenty of ruffles and retro-inspired pieces. With a nod to the 70s, the chunky knitwear in the collection bring back memories of pictures I’ve seen of my own parents, and there’s a cream-coloured Alpaca jumper with coloured stripes that has a true 70s feel to it.
Some of the pieces also feature prints that have been hand drawn by the designer, and there’s plenty of glitter and glam.
A current Velveteen bestseller, a pleated gold dress with bows on the shoulders, will be back for next A/W, and the party dress could be worn with the matching jacket for a very sparkly look, or I could see it being paired with a gold and cream coloured alpaca chunky knit cardigan for a dressed down look.
Velveteen, which was founded in 2012 by a California-born mum now living in Hong Kong, will be stocked by online children’s boutique Alex and Alexa from June, and prices start from around £80. The sizes go from 3 months to 14 years, and the brand also has a boys collection.
