0Visiting Hoxton and Columbia Road Flower Market with children
I love that there’s always something new to experience in London, and living in South West London means we don’t often make it to Hoxton and surrounding areas on weekends. In fact, visiting Columbia Road Flower Market was one of those outings I had been thinking about making for the past 10 years.
Before having children, however, making it to East London to see the flower show on Columbia Road on a Sunday morning before it closes on midday seemed a bit of a struggle, but now this has all changed and I felt we had to make the trip before Baby Boy arrived.
The good news was that we didn’t only make it to the super busy flower market, but we also managed to leave early enough to enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before seeing the flower mania on Columbia Road, which is packed with flower stalls on Sunday mornings.
We stopped by Hoxton Square on the way there, and when we arrived at around 10am there was already a queue outside Breakfast Club. To avoid queuing and try something new, we went to 8 Hoxton Square (see picture), which benefits from a street-side terrace and opens for breakfast at 10am on a Sunday. Baby Girl was the only child there the day we went, and the whole atmosphere in the area was much more hip and trendy than what I’m used to from family-focused South West London.
That’s why our excursion seemed like a mini holiday. We took lots of photos, stopped by stone oven bakery Fabrique from Stockholm located by Hoxton Station to pick up a take-away cinnamon bun, and continued on to Columbia Road, where it was surprisingly easy to park in a nearby street. I’ve never bought so many flowers before, but we were carried away by the cheap flowers and atmosphere and Baby Girl helped me put bouquets together for the entire house when we came home.
It’s not something we’ll do every weekend, but I’m glad we’ve been and ticked it off our London activity list!
