0Visiting London Transport Museum with young children
Normally she’s shouting ‘out, out, out’ after getting impatient on the tube, but yesterday she was shouting ‘more tube’ instead.
This time she was not sitting in a crowded train in her buggy though. She was sitting with her friend in the driver seat in the tube in London Transport Museum in Covent Garden. The two of them got to try steering, push the different buttons and follow the road ahead – the grey tunnel on the screen in front of them. Very exciting.
We had been invited to visit London Transport Museum, and our toddlers seemed to have an enjoyable day out, running around on the ground floor of the museum where there are a number of child-friendly activities.
In addition to trying out their skills as tube drivers, they got to pretend they were driving the bus, play in the play area ‘All aboard’ for under 6s, and climb in and out of buses and old trams.
When they’re older, we can come back and collect all the stamps around the museum, an activity the slightly older children seemed to get excited about.
In fact, I’m not surprised there was a queue to get into London Transport Museum when we left in the late morning. London Transport Museum is a family-friendly attraction ideal to visit for anyone looking for an excursion to keep children entertained during the school holiday.
Entry to the museum is free for children under 17 and £15 for adults. Individual tickets allow unlimited access to the museum for a 12-month period. There are a number of family activities at the museum during the school holiday, including storytelling sessions.
