0Visiting the Dear Zoo trail at ZSL London Zoo for Easter
Last week Baby Boy started saying “giraffe”. It probably sounds a bit more like “graff”, but it still resulting in me buying him a new giraffe toy and spending a very long time with him by the giraffe area at ZSL London Zoo.
The giraffes are now part of ZSL London Zoo’s Dear Zoo trail–celebrating the 35-year anniversary of Rod Campbell’s children’s classic–and I was excited to take 21-month-old Baby Boy on the trail last week since the lift-the-flap book is on my list of favourites for his age group.
ZSL London Zoo now has a Dear Zoo storytelling hub, which has been set up on the grass near the playground, and there are regular story time sessions. There’s also a Dear Zoo activity trail, including fun facts and signs around the zoo where visitors can explore the animals featured in the book.
By the giraffes, we discovered Baby Boy was much shorter than a baby giraffe, and we could see older children with Dear Zoo stamp cards, stamping at each Dear Zoo trail stop.
I also liked the Dear Zoo gift shop near the storytelling hub, and there were lots of Dear Zoo-themed toys and books in the gift shop by the exit too.
I gave Baby Boy the choice between a large cuddly giraffe and a little plastic one, and with him being the most sensible of us when it comes to shopping, he chose the small, inexpensive giraffe.
A brilliant afternoon out for all!
ZSL London Zoo’s Dear Zoo event is running until 17 April
