What happens when mum forgets to bring teddy on holiday

Sunday:
‘Teddy, Teddy, Teddy’

Monday:
‘Please tell me why Teddy is in London’

Tuesday:
‘Can we fly to Teddy in London?’

Wednesday:
‘I want to fly home to London’

After going through security at Heathrow it suddenly struck me that we had left someone who’s practically a member of our family at home. No one had mentioned him when we left the house and he was still fast asleep in Baby Girl’s bed. We had managed to go on holiday without Teddy, who usually comes everywhere.

I whispered it to Daddy T, and we decided to go to Hamley’s straight away and tell Baby Girl she could pick out a cuddly toy for her holiday – a toy she could sleep with. It worked initially. She found a fairy Peppa Pig she wanted and there was no mention of Teddy until nighttime.

I then explained to her what had happened, and she got upset and didn’t want her new Peppa anymore. She cried herself to sleep in my arms, and I felt extremely guilty for not remembering to bring the one toy she loves.

The next morning she was standing in her cot bed shouting his name, and every day I had to repeat the story about Teddy being back in London in her bed and us going back to him in five days, four days, three days and so on.

One day Grandpa P who was with us in France found a super soft pink bunny for her and a blue one for Baby Brother, which Baby Girl could open and look after until he was born, and these seemed to do the trick. They were much better for nighttime than the Peppa she had chosen herself, and she didn’t constantly talk about teddy anymore.

As soon as we arrived home, we still ran to her room to find Teddy and she was happy to go straight to bed with him by her side. It won’t happen again. Teddy will definitely not be forgotten next time we leave the country – It’s just not terribly relaxing to feel like the worst mum ever when you’re meant to have a relaxing time away.
