0What to look for when choosing tableware for toddlers
Before we had Baby Girl, I figured we would never own the colourful plastic tableware for children. Now we have a cupboard full.
I used to think we would only have beautiful children’s pottery in our house, but right now I really don’t want Baby Girl to use any pottery at all. Her plates regularly end up on the floor, and I have a feeling we’re a few years away from changing to breakable tableware.
That’s why I was excited about testing the cute Bashful Puppy Melamine Set from Jellycat, which I received as a sample. I chose this sample from the collection, as I liked the look of it and it met my criteria for toddler tableware.
After trying a variety of plates and bowls, here’s what I look for when choosing tableware for my toddler:
Design: Colourful tableware with cute characters or animals is ideal for my 20-month old. Plain white tableware is simply not as cool.
Practicality: It’s been very useful to have some divider plates–particularly for the 12-18 month stage–but when I look for plates now, I think it’s fine to go for normal plates. I like the fact that the Jellycat one has a rim, which helps minimise spilling.
Matching cups or beakers: I prefer sets with matching plates and drinking cups, as my toddler is starting to prefer to drink from a normal glass and not a bottle, and it’s nice to have matching pieces.
The Bashful Puppy Melamine Set from Jellycat (£15) includes a plate with a rim, a bowl and a drinking cup.
