Cinderella in-the-round at Royal Albert Hall
This week, English National Ballet’s new in-the-round production of Christopher Wheeldon’s Cinderella opens at the Royal Albert Hall and will be running until 16 June. Wheeldon originally created Cinderella for Dutch National Ballet and San Francisco Ballet and the team has been reunited for the ballet now co-produced by English National Ballet and the Royal Albert Hall. There are more than 130 dancers working on Cinderella, which represents English National Ballet’s biggest production to date. To tell the Brothers Grimm fairytale, the ballet promises lively choreography and beautiful and inventive sets and costumes. Cinderella is set to Prokofiev’s score, which will be performed by English National Ballet Philharmonic. The Tiger Who Came to Tea at New Wimbledon Theatre
The stage adaptation of Judith Kerr’s classic children’s book The Tiger Who Came to Tea will be playing at New Wimbledon Theatre from 14 to 16 June. The show, directed by David Wood, tells the charming story of a girl and her mum who have their tea interrupted by a tiger. With catchy songs, audiences can expect to get up on their feet to dance and sing along with the charming cast. The running time is 55 minutes and it is recommended for children aged 3 and over.
Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians and Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors at New Wimbledon Theatre
Later in June, families can catch Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians and Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors at New Wimbledon Theatre, where the two shows will be playing from 26 to 29 June and entertaining audiences with humour and 3D special effects. The popular Horrible Histories series is known for delivering fun and educational shows that bring history alive. The shows are recommended for ages 5 and over, and the running time for Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors is 1 hour and 30 minutes, including interval, while the running time for Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians is 1 hour and 45 minutes, including interval.
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ -The Musical at Ambassadors Theatre
On 15 June, Sue Townsend‘s The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ -The Musical opens at Ambassadors Theatre in London for a limited season until 12 October. The musical adaptation of the bestseller, which many parents will also remember reading growing up, tells the hilarious story about spotty and misunderstood teenager Adrian Mole.
Giffords Circus at Chiswick House and Gardens
Several friends have recommended Giffords Circus, a live circus performance that is back on tour in summer 2019. This year’s 70s-themed show Xanadu, which will be at Chiswick House and Gardens in London from 27 June to 8 July 2019, promises audiences a family-friendly show with musicians, horses, clowns and tumblers. The running time is 90 minutes, and seating is unreserved.
Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom Live at Richmond Theatre
The Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom stage show, which is on tour again this year, is playing at Richmond Theatre from 5 to 6 June. In the show, Ben, an elf, and Holly, a fairy princess, help Gaston the Ladybird clean up his cave before they all go with tooth fairy Nanny Plum to collect a tooth from Lucy in the big world. Audiences can expect action songs with easy-to-follow moves and a big ladybird on wheels. The producers behind the stage adaptation of the magical animation Ben & Holly are the same as the ones behind Peppa Pig Live.
Transit at Southbank Centre
Flip FabriQue, the Canadian circus troupe, has returned to London to headline Southbank’s Underbelly Festival with their show Transit. The show, which is recommended for children aged 6 and over, is running until 7 July. Audiences can expect high-flying acrobatics and aerial routines in the 60-minute long show.
