0When baby starts crawling
‘OMG. This is not going to work.’
I thought having two children was fine until Saturday. When eight-month-old Baby Boy started commando crawling I suddenly got worried.
I had brought both children to the bathroom to get started on the bedtime routine and when Daddy T appeared after 15 minutes we were all sitting on the floor without being anywhere near the point where Big Girl and Baby Boy could have their baths.
I used to be super efficient at this time of day.
I have a list for three-year-old Big Girl, so she knows what we need to do in the evening and is reminded that bedtime is not playtime.
I’ve tried to keep it like clockwork, sticking to a strict routine to manage to bath two children, put on their nightwear, brush their teeth, read two stories and put both children to bed at the same time.
But it’s not exactly clockwork when I constantly have to hold onto Baby Boy to avoid him crawling off his mat. He’s already strong and practically throwing himself forward, so it’s impossible to let go of him to help Big Girl.
My options now seem to be either to create a soft-play style padded bathroom or perhaps buy some robust helmets to protect us all.
Safety first!
