0When to move toddler to a big bed
‘Can I wrap my bed and give it to the postman?’
Before Baby Boy was born we bought a new cot bed, as I was worried about Baby Girl’s reaction if the new baby were to take her things. Now, however, I’m left feeling we could have saved ourselves all the stress of finding a new cot bed.
Baby Girl has suddenly decided she wants a ‘big bed’–ideally the same size as our bed.
This has now become her latest excuse for delaying bedtime, and I usually say we can discuss it with Daddy T–my standard comment to avoid having to commit to buying things for her and leaving the discussion to be had with Daddy T because he’s not at home as much.
She doesn’t forget easily though. When Daddy T went to check on her later in the evening on Wednesday, she said: ‘I want a big bed, Daddy’ and the next morning at breakfast she asked: ‘When is my big bed coming, Mummy?’
She doesn’t seem to share any of the concerns I’ve had about moving her to a big bed she can climb out of, and she doesn’t seem to recognise the benefits of me knowing she’s safe in her bed and not roaming around in the house or setting the alarm off at night.
She might be ready to give her cot bed to Baby Boy – or the post man.
But I’m not sure I am.
