1When to start establishing a newborn sleep routine
Yesterday Daddy T suggested that perhaps he needs to ‘get with the programme’ when it comes to Baby Boy’s routine, as we’re trying to establish a newborn sleep routine now that Baby Boy is coming up to six weeks. But the one who really needs to ‘get with the programme’ is not Daddy T but Baby Boy.
I remember being advised to start thinking about a routine at four weeks when Baby Girl was a newborn, and then to try to establish the routine at six weeks. Baby Boy is now coming up to six weeks, and I can’t say I’ve been extremely successful this time.
Since he seems a bit colicky and saves all his energy for the evening, he appears to be exhausted at times during the day. During what’s meant to be ‘awake time’ I can often sit and sing ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ on repeat, but the audience response is rather disappointing.
He also often wakes up an hour earlier than planned in the morning, messing up all the other times the rest of the day, and adding an extra nap that’s nowhere to be seen on the newborn sleep routine sheet I have received.
I really wanted to get this right since I’ve understood it could help reduce wind and symptoms of colic, but right now I’m thinking it sounds a lot easier than it is. I know what we’re meant to do – we’re just not doing it.
Well done! I tried this that early and it didn’t work but the earlier the better I reckon x
