0Where to celebrate Wimbledon 2015 in London
With restrictions for when to be quiet when watching a tennis match live, even I’ve realised there will be a few years before we’re doing this as a family activity. That’s why I’m sending Daddy T to Wimbledon with a friend instead, and I hope Baby Girl, Baby Boy and I can get in the spirit of Wimbledon by doing other tennis-themed activities instead.
Wimbledon Cupcake Decorating at Bluebird
My favourite Wimbledon memories are from the Courtyard at Bluebird, where there’s a big screen, giant tennis balls and typically a fantastic Wimbledon atmosphere. On 9 July, Bluebird also has a special Wimbledon cupcake event for children at 4pm in the Food Store. During the class, children will get to decorate yummy cupcakes to take home –all in the spirit of Wimbledon 2015 (see picture above). The class is £15 per child and places can be booked via email or on the phone.
Time for Tennis icing event at Biscuiteers
Creative mums and big kids can head to Biscuiteers in Northcote Road or Notting Hill for a fun Wimbledon-themed morning. Biscuiteers is running Time For Tennis icing events (minimum age 16) on Wednesday 8 July from 10.30 to 12.30 in Northcote Road and on Sunday 12 July from 11.30 to 13.30 in Notting Hill. In the two-hour class, attendees will learn how to ice a sporty tennis tin, including top Wimbledon shapes, such as tennis whites and a trophy, which will be packed into a gift tin to take home together with a Biscuiteers apron. Tickets for Biscuiteers School of Icing (£78 per person) can be booked online.
Northcote Road Summer Fete 2015
For anyone wanting to take the family out to see the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday 12 July on a giant screen, family-friendly Northcote Road in Battersea is set to be a fun place to be, with the summer fete taking place on the same day. Northcote Road will be closed to traffic on the day and the street will be lined with stalls, three fairground rides, a giant screen where the Wimbledon Men’s final will be shown, and a stage with live entertainment.
For other venues with large TV screens showing the action from Wimbledon, parents can check out the Stamford Bridge Pop-Up Summer Garden, a new landscaped garden with trees, deck chairs and fairy lights which is open until 31 July, and Broadway House, which has a new grassy terrace and is showing all major matches.
