0Where to find advice on what to buy for baby
In person – Babylist in Chelsea
When I was pregnant with Baby Girl we had an appointment at Babylist at around 20 weeks, and after spending several hours with one of the experts at Babylist, looking at products and discussing our needs, we felt a lot more confident and much better informed about what to buy for baby. We learnt how many bodies we needed to start out with, how many sleepsuits, how many maternity pants, how many sheets and so on. It felt like an efficient way to shop and meant we could ignore all other advice, as we trusted Babylist fully. We also loved browsing all the products in the beautiful showroom, and it was exciting to receive the full list of products we had picked at the end of the session. We then had time to go home and think about it all before placing an order and then receiving the items closer to due date.
Online – Berry Clever
Social media savvy mums-to-be will love the recently introduced social shopping site Berry Clever, which has been designed for mums to share tips and advice on products for loved ones. The kids section is ideal for expecting parents, offering suggestions for lists for shopping for newborns and what to buy for the hospital bag, for example. More than 7000 people joined Berry Clever in the first three months after launch, and the idea is that parents can connect with friends to find out what products they love and find like-minded people in the online environment to get useful recommendations. Users can upload reviews, tips, photos and create lists, and the site links to retailers to allow users to easily purchase products.
On the go – My Baby Guru
Last year I reviewed the new baby preparation app My Baby Guru (read review HERE), and I think this app is very easy to use for expecting mums, and it has informative advice on different products from a mum who has clearly done a lot of research. The My Baby Guru app generates a readiness score for users and helps soon-to-be parents keep track of what needs to be bought before baby arrives. It’s a bit more fun than simply having a list in an Excel sheet, and I feel that the app is comprehensive, but with the right level of information – not too daunting!
