0Where to go with baby or toddler on King’s Road
Bluebird
I love the cafe at Bluebird and its quirky interior. We often go for weekend brunch, enjoying a babyccino, scrambled eggs and avocado. They have crayons and high chairs, and seating is first come, first served. The staff has also been lovely to Baby Girl, and we can’t wait to sit outside in the courtyard again in the summer. A great local spot.
Le Pain Quotidien
The Le Pain Quotidien on King’s Road can be a pretty convenient place to meet up with other mums, and we were sometimes groups with 3-4 Bugaboos in there when our babies were little. There’s a changing table, high chairs, a light menu, pastries, coffee and cakes.
Mermaid Maternity Retreat
Mermaid opened after I had Baby Girl, but a friend with a four-month old was a member one month now recently and said it was lovely stopping there for breastfeeding. She had paid £30 for one-month membership at Mermaid, and she had used the membership to take a class and access the restaurant, meaning she had an ideal place on King’s Road for breastfeeding breaks–and the ability to get some food at the same time. Sounded like it was well-worth it!
Peter Jones
Some of my friends with newborns seem to have daily stops in the breastfeeding room at Peter Jones. The cafe is also a popular meeting place for groups of mums. If I go to Peter Jones, I end up spending most of my time in the toy section, debating which new colour of Play Dough to buy.
St Luke’s Gardens
The playground by St Luke’s Gardens in Chelsea is not literally on King’s Road–it’s a stone throw away on Sydney Street. There always seems to be a queue for the swings for little ones, but 17-month old Baby Girl loves it so much here that it’s definitely worth the stop. I think it’s an excellent playground for locals and it’s perfect to have somewhere like this close to shops and restaurants. For larger playgrounds, its best to head to Battersea Park or Hyde Park.
