5 reasons three years age difference between siblings works for us

1. On a Friday in July I was feeling tired and exhausted after a full day with rain and both children in tow, and all I wanted to do was to collapse on the sofa. When Baby Boy fell asleep for his afternoon nap, Baby Girl came up to me and said: ‘I need some quiet time, Mummy’ before she went to her room to read some books

2. Baby Girl is fully aware of the concept of gift giving, and she’s realised Baby Boy excels at it. The night before she turned three, she reminded me that her baby would probably have a present for her, and when she opened his present the next morning – a huge Rapunzel hair wig which had been at the top of her birthday wish list – she chimed: ‘Father Christmas doesn’t have to get it for me! Baby Boy bought Rapunzel hair! He’s a good boy!’

3. When Baby Boy had a doctor’s appointment at eight weeks, I had our very first GP office Kodak Moment. Baby Girl was holding his hand, super excited about her baby having a check-up, and singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to him to calm him down when he had his first vaccinations

4. When Baby Boy has been upset recently, Baby Girl has started singing his favourite song Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed if he’s been awake, or she’s tried giving him his dummy, picking it up like a pro and not touching the bit that goes in his mouth, if he’s looked sleepy. A mini-me

5. If Baby Boy looks a bit off, I’m not the only noticing and looking after him. When his eczema was bad, she looked at him and shouted: “Mummy, mummy! My baby has chickenpox!’
